Hotel REIT Update – Year-End 2023

The publicly traded REITs outperformed the other real estate sectors with superior annualized returns.  Nonetheless, these REITs, with various approaches and varying degrees of success, are trying to determine the best way to unlock value given the more expensive capital markets environment.  As hotel market fundaments have improved, surpassing 2019 results in most areas, and the public REITs outperformed the other real estate sectors with superior annualized returns, investors are beginning to re-think how they perceive the risk/reward trade-off in the hospitality sector.
